Chocolate Braided Buns are soft, fluffy homemade buns filled with creamy chocolate and baked until golden.
Ingredients (12 buns)
500 g all-purpose flour (4 cups)
250 ml milk (1 cup + 5 tbsp)
80 ml neutral oil (1/2 cup)
11 g dry yeast
20 g granulated sugar (1 heaping tbsp)
12 g salt (1 heaping dessert spoon)
1 egg white
1 egg yolk, for brushing
For the filling:
Chocolate spread
Instructions
1. Add the flour to a large mixing bowl and make a well in the center. Add the yeast and sugar, then pour in the warm milk and mix until the yeast dissolves.
2. Add the oil, salt, and egg white. Knead until you have a soft dough that does not stick to your hands. If the dough is too firm, add a little more milk; if it is too soft, add a little flour.
3. Cover the dough and let it rise until doubled in size.
4. Divide the risen dough into 12 equal pieces. Roll each piece into approximately a 19 x 19 cm square.
5. Spread with chocolate spread, then shape each piece into a braided bun.
6. Let the shaped buns rise again until doubled in size.
7. Brush the tops with egg yolk and bake in a preheated 180°C (350°F) conventional oven until beautifully golden.
8. Serve warm for a soft, fluffy bun with a creamy chocolate center.
